Teething and eating

The boys are in the midst of some serious teething. Everett already has four teeth and he currently has 3 teeth coming in right now. Sullivan also has four teeth and I can see one possibly two more poking through. Up until today I was thinking to myself that the boys, especially Everett were handling this all really well, no fussiness or anything. Boy was I wrong, today has been a tough day of teething for Everett. Sofia only had four teeth by her first birthday, I have no idea why the boys are getting their teeth so much faster.

The boys are doing great with eating but they both have different strengths. Sully does really well with baby led weaning and finger food. He chews and has no problems with his food. He isn't a huge fan of pureed foods though. Everett is just the opposite, he can down three servings of pureed foods but even a puff that goes down in the wrong way will cause him to gag. It's frustrating because he wants to eat finger food but he has a very active gag reflex. He's had this since he was born. If I tried to nurse him or give him a bottle when he didn't want it he would gag. He doesn't do that anymore with bottles but he gagged on a mum mum yesterday at dinner (and he doesn't just gag, he upchucks everything he's had in the past twenty minutes). I cleaned him up and gave him some puffs, he proceeded to gag on those as well.

Sofia has gone from a baby who would eat almost anything to a typical picky toddler. She is a major carbivore and her favorite carb is definitely an asiago bagel. She does well with some fruit but will eat any fruit if I put it in a smoothie. She also is a major dairy girl, she loves milk, yogurt and cheese. So far she isn't a big sweets eater. She will eat some vegetables like corn, steamed carrots, and spinach in her scrambled eggs but she isn't very adventurous with vegetables. I've been using Pinterest a lot to find ideas for different toddler meals.

I'm excited because I have a birthday coming up and Tim has been working hard on my birthday wishes. I told him I wanted both of my bikes in working order and I wanted to be able to bike with all three kids, by myself. I haven't used them since last spring since I was either very pregnant or very busy with twins all of last summer. We installed a new seat on my mountain bike that Sofia will use and then I will hook up the trailer that will hold both of the boys.

A test drive on the new seat

My road bike is in need of some new rims and tubes. Tim and I have always loved road biking but we haven't done it as much in the past few years with babies in tow. We have done shorter rides (less than 20 miles) with Sofia in the trailer but I'm looking forward to some longer rides with Tim this summer. One of my absolute favorite moments with Tim came on the seat of a bike. We were dating in college and went out on our favorite routes in La Crosse on a gorgeous spring day. We were a few miles from campus when the sun disappeared and it started pouring. I vividly remember just looking at Tim and we were both smiling ear to ear and checking out our surroundings. There was no place to take cover so we just stood there for a minute and enjoyed the moment and eventually biked back to campus.
